MAGNESIUM DEFICIENCY TRIGGERS OR CAUSES THE FOLLOWING 22 CONDITIONS
Anxiety and panic attacks,
asthma, blood clots, bowel disease, cystitis, depression, detoxification,
diabetes - syndrome X - metabolic syndrome, fatigue, heart disease,
hypertension, hypoglycemia, insomnia, kidney disease, liver disease,
migraine, musculoskeletal conditions, nerve problems, obstetrics
- gynecology [including: premenstrual syndrome, dysmenorrhea
(cramping pain during menses), infertility, premature contractions,
preclampsia, and eclampsia in pregnancy, lessens the risk of
cerebral palsy and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)], osteoporosis,
Raynaud's syndrome, and tooth decay. The introduction of magnesium,
either by a high-magnesium diet, with green drinks, or magnesium
supplements, can help alleviate these conditions.
BENEFITS OF MAGNESIUM Magnesium can act in a way related
to calcium channel blocker drugs, which block the entry of calcium
into cells. Magnesium and calcium compete for cellular membrane
sites and oppose each other in many reactions in the body. This
may explain why under certain circumstances magnesium has been
found to potentially improve vision in people with glaucoma.
And, it may account for magnesium's ability to lower blood pressure.
Along with potassium, it is one of the major intracellular electrolytes.
It is also one of the three major minerals found in the formation
of bone.
SUPPLEMENTING WITH MAGNESIUM It has been shown to be helpful in
cases of people with diabetes, as those with diabetes tend to
be low in magnesium. And, it has proven to be beneficial to women
who experience bladder problems, especially disturbances in bladder
control and the sense of urgency. One double-blind trial found
that women who took 147 mg of elemental magnesium twice daily
for four weeks had better bladder control and fewer symptoms
than women who took a placebo. Magnesium supplementation also
may reduce dehydration of red blood cells in sickle cell anemia
patients. And, preliminary research suggests magnesium can reduce
hyperactivity in children, in particular those with attention
deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) who have lowered levels
of magnesium. In a preliminary but controlled trial, 50 ADHD
children with low magnesium who were given 200 mg of magnesium
per day for six months had a significant decrease in hyperactive
behavior.
